Matilda The Musical (London)
Matilda arrived at The Cambridge Theatre with a dream selection of talent assembling under the banner of a Royal Shakespeare Company production.
Stadium-selling comedian Tim Minchin provides original songs, prolific Matthew Warchus directs, and the acclaimed writer Dennis Kelly delivers the book. Together they create a stunning new musical, based on the original story by the inimitable Roald Dahl.
Matilda is a captivating musical that revels in the anarchy of childhood, the power of imagination, and the inspiring story of a girl who dared to change her destiny. This magical show is pure escapism for all ages and the lead performance of the young Matilda has to be seen with your own eyes to believe. Never before has such a young talent filled a West End stage so magnificently.
The Royal Shakespeare Company's world première production has mesmerised young and old alike and continues to play to packed houses at London's Cambridge Theatre.

Fantastic night out
28 August 2016
Not being the biggest fan of musicals, the many shows I have seen previously have been somewhat under duress. Matilda appealed a little more knowing the music was by Tim Minchin but I wasn't expecting such a spectacular evening. The music complimented the story perfectly. The stage show was wonderful. And the whole Performance was executed to perfection by the cast with the ideal mix of humour and darkness required of a Roald Dahl tale. I find most musicals fudge tacky songs and contrived stage shows to cover a second rate story. Not so in Matilda. This was a night out to remember. I cannot rate it highly enough.

My wife & me were debating whether to go for Lion King or Matilda & are glad we chose the latter. What a brilliant performance it was from the whole cast. Absolutely breathtaking & worth every pound.

Very cleverly performed, especially the choreography was stupendous. Had difficulties understanding a lot of the lyrics and found much of it way too loud.

What luck that we happened to get tickets at the very last minute. Went online 2 hours before the show and were able to get great seats. We were blown away by the performances of the cast. Great play and great acting. We'll look forward to more plays next year when we come back to London.

This show was fabulous from the first scene to the last. Our Matilda was Zaris Angel Hator who got a standing ovation at the end and certainly deserved it. Her part is the biggest and she was faultless. Her timing was great and we all loved her. The casting was excellent, we loved and hated the various characters. It was so funny, and witty and so tragic. There were no slow bits, every scene was memorable. All the cast was very good, no also-rans.

What a great show! Full of energy and child like enthusiasm. Loved Miss Trunchbull! I recently saw it as well in New York and this one in London matched it. Now I'm going to see it in Melbourne as well!

Greatly enjoyed by my 10 year old granddaughter who speaks English as her second language. It helped that she knows the story line well as she was flumoxed by the rapid fire singing and the "working class" accents of some of the actors. Overall she had a splendid evening.

Not my cup of tea. Majority of "musical numbers" were raucous and discordant to my ears. Cast performances, especially Matilda, were good but the material was not for me.

Gleefully Nasty, an evening of unadulterated bliss!
Matilda is a fabulous family fizzer. It has strong tunes, witty lyrics and enough ‘eew!’ moments to satisfy the most revolting urchin.
